The best thing is that Curtis makes a big deal of being racially sensitive with its minority-driven cast and annual Kwanzaa storyline.
I really just think the comic made a huge mistake by making this one-off character Asian. It reminds me of a collection of Dilbert strips Scott Adams put out called Seven Years of Highly Defective People where he wrote little notes in the margins of the book commenting on most of the strips.
One strip featured a security guard who stole from the office at night. When coloring it, the publisher decided to make the guard black. In Adams' comments he wrote "They pick the worst possible time to add diversity to the cast."
